Promoting the use of locally-grown timber in construction

Case Study - Pyrahut

The purpose was to design and build a small portable prototype structure that could function as an exhibition stand and as an exemplar modular frame building built as much as possible of south-east timber and by south-east companies.

The stand should express the potential of being replicable and possess the means of being put to other uses using similar construction techniques. The building should signal an opportunity for self-build fabrication

It should also show how local timber could be used as a primary structural and cladding material and demonstrate broad mainstream applications.  Ideally, it should also show how the use of innovative production techniques could further increase commerce with
in the region.

Both Weald Woodnet and The TimberBuild Network are attempting to promote the use of local timber and timber-related companies by the construction industry.  In order to do this, we feel it important to provide a lead by showing how innovative use of these local resources has the potential of improving and expanding forestry-based commerce within the South East.
