The TimberBuild Network was set up in 2003 to encourage the
many facets of the construction industry within the UK to make
more use of locally-grown timber. This is good news indeed as
timber has the potential to be among the most sustainable of
building materials.
Sustainability is not a fixed goal, but a direction; and the further
we move in that direction the better.
Our aims are three-fold:
-
To protect and support our woodland environment by bringing
value back to timber, thus making it cost effective to manage and care for woodland.
- To support the declining number of local companies that make use of local timber, including
foresters, sawmillers, carpenters and product manufacturers, thus encouraging the continuation and
the development of our traditional timber industry.
-
To develop the knowledge and skills required to use locally-grown timber that have declined during
the years when concrete and steel have been the materials of choice.
